It had been 13 years since we'd spoken.

There was never a falling out or an argument. No chaotic moment to pinpoint. One day, he simply stopped taking my calls. Didn't respond to my texts. He just… erased me. And it hurt, deeply.

This was a man who had been there for me through all the years my own father wasn't. He was my uncle, my mother's only sibling. And he was my godfather (a big deal in Latino culture, iykyk). He was the one who opened his home to us when my mother fled an abusive relationship. He was our only family when we moved across the country. The times we laughed and played together were as innumerable as our inside jokes.

He was one of the few examples I had of a positive masculine figure.

And suddenly, I didn't even exist to him.

I won't lie. It left a deep wound in me. It was heartbreaking.

Then, one day last year…

He sent me a text.

"Let's reconnect soon. Would love to hear about what you are doing."

Simple, but powerful.

And oh, man, the floodgates opened. I cried like a baby.

We'd had a few brief text exchanges over the previous year or two, sparked by my grandmother's surgery (she's good!) Short, simple birthday and holiday well-wishes. But this was different. This was reconciliation. This was a shift.

This was love.

And it happened exactly one month after I returned from a powerful retreat in Sedona and began a personal daily devotional practice with Mama Cacao.

A few weeks later, we talked for two hours. Not surface-level catch-up. Pure love. Pure restoration. Like no time had passed at all.
